Windows 8 VS Printer...and the winner is !

Windows 8 has been released with much fanfare. You're reading this, presumably, because you're trying to decide whether to upgrade and need to know if your printer will work, or you've already upgraded and are trying to find out how to make it work. Either way, the information we've collected here should help.
Anyone who has lived through the upgrade from one generation of Windows to the next knows that one of the biggest potential headaches is the need to get new drivers for your printers. This hasn't been true of every new version of Windows, but it's been true often enough.

To get a sense of how much of an issue it can be with Windows 8 we took a few printers chosen at random and tried installing them on a system running the RTM (release to manufacture) version of the new OS. The results were pretty much what we expected. Some printers installed and worked without problems thanks to drivers supplied with Windows 8 itself. With others, however, Windows 8 didn't include drivers and wouldn't recognize the drivers that came with the printers as legitimate.
If your printer falls into the second category, the good news is that there's probably a driver for it out there somewhere. The bad news is that before you can install it, you have to find it.

More important, it would be helpful to know which category your printer is in before you upgrade, and also know where to find the driver if it doesn't come with Windows. Less obviously, you can avoid a lot of potential frustration by finding out before you upgrade whether the Windows 8 driver will provide full support for all features. I've seen cases in the past where the driver for a new version of Windows will print well enough, for example, but drops support for duplexing or some other feature.
If you've already upgraded, you're pretty much stuck with what you can get. But if you're still deciding whether to upgrade, getting as many details as you can will help you make a better decision about whether to upgrade.

To help you find the information easily, we contacted every printer manufacturer we know about and asked them where to find the details. The answers, for those who had one, are listed below by manufacturer, complete with a link to a Web page, in most cases, where you can find more details. If you can't find the information you need below, check back later. Some companies were still working on the details when we posted this story, and didn't have answers for us in time. We will be updating the information as we get it.

 

Canon Inkjet Printers

Canon says information on Windows 8 and Windows RT compatibility for its Pixma printers will be available online when Windows 8 is officially launched.
To find the compatibility information on Canon's site, click on the plus sign next to your printer's model series. The entry will expand to show you a list of all the printers in that series along with the Windows 8 and Windows RT compatibility information for each one. If a driver is available for your printer, you can click on the printer name to go to the download page for that printer and download the driver.

DYMO Label Printers

DYMO says that for anyone using DYMO Label software with its label printers, version 8.4.2 will add Windows 8 support. DYMO expects the new version of the program to be available for downloading as a free upgrade from www.dymo.com sometime after November 1, 2012. The upgrade will also include a driver to let you print from other programs.
For anyone using DYMO Label Light, the version that's stored in the printer itself, version 2.0 will add Windows 8. DYMO expects the new version of DYMO Label Light to be available as a free download, also from www.dymo.com, sometime after January 31, 2013.
DYMO has no current plans to support Windows RT.

Kodak (Inkjet Printers)

Kodak says that Windows 8 and Windows RT will both include a basic driver that will work with the following printers:

• Kodak HERO 3.1, 5.1, 7.1, 9.1
• Kodak ESP C110, C310, C315, 1.2, 3.2
• Kodak OFFICE HERO 6.1
• Kodak ESP Office 2150, 2170
• Kodak HERO 2.2, 4.2

In addition, Kodak plans to release Kodak AIO Software v7.6 in late October for more complete support of the printers in Windows 8. Kodak says that in addition to the driver itself, the new software will include Status Monitor, Home Center 7.6, Print Projects, and CleanPrint, and will work with all Kodak AIO printers, including older models. The driver will be available at www.kodak.com/go/aiodownloads, and as a push software update.
Konica Minolta Business Solutions
Konica Minolta Business Solutions says Windows 8 compatibility information for its printers will be available through a Product Compatibility link on its main support page.
Updated drivers with Windows 8 support will be available at onyxweb.mykonicaminolta.com/OneStopProductSupport?appMode=Public
The company says it has no plans to support Windows RT.

OKI Data Americas

OKI Data Americas says it will post Windows 8 and Windows RT driver support information starting on October 26, 2012. Use the drop down boxes on the page to select your printer model, and go to the Drivers page for that printer. On the Drivers page, you'll see a drop down list of operating systems, which will include Windows 8 and Windows RT if drivers for those OSs are available for that printer.
Choose the appropriate OS, and you'll get information about the best driver choice for that printer along with any instructions you need for getting it. Depending on the printer, the best choice may be using a driver that's included with the OS, downloading one through Microsoft Windows Update, or downloading one from the OKI Web site.

Ricoh

You can check the current availability of Windows 8 drivers for any specific Ricoh printer model by going to the driver download page for that model. Start at the Ricoh Support page, and use the search box or drop down lists to find your printer model. Choose the driver link to go to the driver download page, and you'll see links for downloading drivers for your choice of operating system. If there's a Windows 8 driver available, it will be in the list of choices.
Ricoh couldn't provide confirmation of Windows RT support at this writing, but says that if it does provide Windows RT drivers, it will also show in the lists for the individual printers.

Xerox Printers

A list of Xerox printers with Windows 8 compatibility information for each is available in a PDF format file. For information about Windows RT compatibility, scroll down to the last page of the file.

AMD Radeon HD 7970 vs. Nvidia GeForce GTX 680

Earlier this year both AMD and Nvidia released all-new 28nm GPUs, resulting in AMD taking the single-GPU performance crown momentarily with its HD 7970 before Nvidia swiped it away a few months later with its GeForce GTX 680. It’s been awhile since we’ve even thought about either of these cards as we’ve been busy testing their binned counterparts for most of the year, but this past week AMD released a new Beta driver that it claims provides "significant" performance improvements for its already-potent HD 7000 series cards. Just one day later Nvidia pounced, releasing its own Beta driver which also claimed to boost performance in a wide variety of popular titles. This happens all the time; as soon as one manufacturer holds an advantage the other strikes back in order to help drag the performance crown back to its own camp, typically via an overclocked card, improved drivers, or both.
 

EVGA’s GTX 680 card is a bit boring to look at but it certainly makes up for it with sizzlin’ performance.

The difference this time is that AMD is not only claiming its new driver offers a substantial performance improvement, but it’s also throwing in a killer game bundle for its 7000 series cards as well, and prices have also dropped quite a bit since launch. All these factors could make quite a compelling case to go GPU shopping in the AMD aisle during the holiday buying season. But then again, all this could be trumped by the fact that the Nvidia card is still faster despite not having a game bundle to motivate shoppers. And maybe Nvidia’s newest drivers would wipe out any performance gain AMD might have achieved with its newest driver as well. With new drivers from both manufacturers on-hand, and the holiday season around the corner, it was clear we had to retest both cards with the newest drivers to see where the two cards stand.

We’d normally roll our eyes at a “gaming bundle” but this one’s legit — 3 AAA titles with any HD 7970 is a great deal (unless you’re not into shooters).

Benchmarks

1900x1200

Best scores are bolded. Our test bed is a 3.33GHz Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition in an Asus P9X79 motherboard with 16GB of DDR3/1600 and an AX1200 Corsair PSU. The OS is 64-bit Windows Ultimate. All games are run at their noted resolution with 4XAA except for the 3DMark tests.

Conclusion

With both Beta drivers loaded on our Core i7-3960X test bed we fired them up and ran through our standard testing gauntlet at both 2560x1600 and 1900x1200 resolution to see what difference the new drivers would make in the cards' performance.  As you can see from the benchmarks the two cards are excruciatingly close, enough to almost call it a draw — almost. The HD 7970 takes victory in five out of nine games at 2560x1600 and in six out of nine games at 1900x1200, but the GTX 680 takes the cake in our synthetic benchmarks. Also, two were very close in every test we ran with the exception of Borderlands 2 which makes liberal use of PhysX effects to shower you with debris every second of the game. The AMD card simply chugged in scenes with heavy PhysXeffects, so if Borderlands 2 is your game there's no question Nvidia's cards are superior at this time. For the other games though it was a nail-biter, with the advantage going to the HD 7970. That alone might not be enough to bring you over to the red team, but adding to the AMD card’s attractiveness is the fact that it is throwing in free copies of Far Cry 3, Hitman: Absolution, and Sleeping Dogs right now. Whether or not all of this will be enough to move some HD 7000 series cards remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — AMD is certainly putting up one heck of a fight.

Teknologi satelit dan fiber optik membantu penghantaran dan penerimaan maklumat dengan pantas dan tiada apa-apa halangan bagi ia untuk menembusi setiap benua. Kewujudan MSC mewujudkan perkembangan informasi yang meningkatkan produktiviti, kemahiran dan percampuran budaya yang mana ia memberi kesan baik atau buruk. Itu terserah pada  anda untuk menentukannya.

Petiktetikus dapat merasakan Malaysia tercinta ini semakin hari semakin anggun dan cantik dari pandangan mata kasar. Tetapi jika aku tenung dengan lebih dalam lagi, aku dapati terdapat pelbagai "anasir-anasir" jahat yang cuba merosakkan keharmonian yang telah lama kita kecapi. Mengapa ia berlaku dengan kerap sekarang?. Lebih teruk lagi apabila kita merasakan isu-isu ini perkara biasa dan kita tidak berasa hairan lagi. What is happen right now?

Pada pendapat saya sendiri, informasi yang mudah dan pelbagai boleh didapati di internet tanpa sebarang tapisan dan pantauan menjadi punca kudis semakin melarat. Dengan hanya memetik tetikus, kita dapat pelajari bagaimana hendak membuat bom tangan, dengan memetik tetikus kita boleh diajar mencuri kereta, dengan hanya memetik tetikus, kita dapat membeli senjata dan yang lebih teruk dan hina lagi kita juga didedahkan bagaimana cara meluahkan protes dengan membakar harta benda orang lain, membelasah siapa sahaja yang berlainan ideologi dan mengajarkan semua ini kepada anak mereka yang mungkin bakal menjadi pemerintah negara ini. Wei! korang sedar tak?

Aku sama sekali tidak menyalahkan IT kerana menjadi penyebab Malaysia ini semakin teruk. Aku menyalahkan individu tertentu yang sempit akalnya yang menapoli pemikiran orang lain hanya untuk kepentingan diri semata-mata. Parasit-parasit seperti ini yang membuatkan pokok yang utuh dan jitu menjadi kering dan bakal tumbang pada bila-bila masa sahaja. Maklumat yang mereka dapati di internet, kemudiannya mereka memutarbelitkan ia dan menjadikan ia senjata untuk menjatuhkan orang lain. Yep, aku memang memerli ahli-ahli politik yang hipokrit. !

Di dalam mana-mana parti politik, aku dapati pemimpinya tidak berapa memberi masalah. mereka mempunyai pegangan politik yang jelas dan kuat . Kalau anda berdebat dengan mereka tanpa memenuhkan ilmu didada, lebih baik duduk diam dihujung penjuru bilik. Cakap kosong hanya untuk budak-budak sekolah. Yang amat menyedihkan aku ialah pemimpin bawahan ni. Mereka "menjual" nama pemimpin mereka untuk mereka menjahanamkan rakyat seperti kita. Kita diperbodohkana seperti anak ayam dan ditarik hidungnya seperti seladang di sawah. Bagaimana perlu kita"setel" tahi-tahi busuk ini. Mungkin anda berfikir seperti saya, "Aku tiada kuasa untuk menolak". Aku sesekali tidak menolak pendapat itu. Ya!. kesihan rakyat seperti kita. Ditendang dan ditampar sesuka hati.


Aku cuma boleh memohon agar pemimpin kesemua parti politik cuba "membersihkan" badan masing-masing dahulu sebelum menabur janji kepada rakyat Malaysia. Perancangan ekonomi yang mantap dan kemajuan yang semakin kita terima bakal menjadi abu sekiranya orang-orang bawahan ini yang mempunyai perancangan jahat ini dibuang,dibakar atau di tanam terlebih dahulu. Aku amat sayangkan Malaysia,seperti aku sayangi keluarga aku. Apa-apa komplot yang bakal menghancurkan negara , tanpa ragu-ragu aku akan bangkit menghalang puak-puak ini dengan cara dan usaha aku sendiri. Anda bagaimana?

SEPETANG DI PARADIGM MALL...BEST !

Hai!. aku rasa badan aku lesu jer sejak akhir-akhir ni. Yela, hujan tanpa henti. Seperti dijangka,tepat jam 12 pm dan sehinggalah malam nanti hujan akan turun dengan maha lebat atau renyai-renyai bak tangisan gadis kena clash!. Opss! sorry. Untuk pengetahuan korang, aku harini menghadiri kursus membaik pulih laptop. Kursus tu habis awal lak harini so aku terpikir " Apala aku nak buat petang ni?". Tiba-tiba aku teringat yang aku tak tengok lagi movie James Bond terbaru. So aku terus bergerak ke Paradigm Mall yang terletak di Petaling Jaya. Actually, aku tak pernah pergi ke sana. Rasanya ia pun baru jer bukak tahun ini. So ok la kiranya kalau aku pergi tengok kat sana dan boleh jugak aku berjalan-jalan melihat suasana Paradigm Mall dengan lebih dekat lagi. But first, movie time!!!

Wow, the movie is awesome and its true what people say's that its a best bond movie ever be. There are a lot of surprise but, i will not tell you all. Just watch it ok! . Setelah aku habis layan movie tadi, aku mulalah perjalanan aku menerokai pasaraya ini. Pada pendapat saya, ia agak menarik dan unik daripada pasaraya tesko yang pernah aku pergi. Cuba bayangkan Mid Velly, yep! lebih kurang macam tu tetapi dalam skala yang lebih kecil. Walaubagaimanapun, kedai-kedai yang terdapat di dalamnya memang memenuhi citarasa sesiapa saja yang menyukai shopping , makan dan berseronok bersama keluarga dan rakan-rakan. Suasana di dalamnya yang cukup teratur dan selesa. Pilihan kedai yang perlbagai yang menjual barangan yang pastinya membuatkan anda memerah poket anda sekering-keringnya.

Sepanjang perjalanan aku meronda kawasan ini, tidak terdapat ramai pengunjung. Berkemungkinan cuaca yang tidak mengizinkan dan bukan hari minggu. Truthfully, tadi aku sesat untuk datang kesini. jalan masuk yang tidak jelas dan mengelirukan. Entah macam mana tadi aku boleh tertembus ke luar PJ, Cuak tadi sekejap hehe. Bukan ape, hujan mula lebat so aku risaukan laptop dan hp aku basah kuyup.

It provides much more accurate and better results than any mobile OCR scanning app, and it's truly free—no charges for uploading data. Citrix GoToMyPC


Citrix’s GoToMyPC iPad app makes it simple to control your computer while you’re away from your work area. Some latency issues may dampen the experience, but there is still no substitute for being able to log onto your primary work computer when you need to, and this app specifically supports that goal.

Docusign

Dropbox


Got a Dropbox account? If you use Dropbox to sync files from your desktop or laptop computers, then download the free app to make all those files even more accessible when all you’re carrying is an iPad.

eFax

 
The eFax iPad app makes it simple to send and receive faxes from your tablet, losing very little in the transition from desktop to mobile. A free account lets you receive (not send) a handful of faxes, but upgrading to a Plus or Pro account opens the door to faxing freedom.

Evernote


Evernote is a note-taker’s dream come true, due in part to the fact that it has the best search around. Jot down ideas by typing text, recording an audio memo, snapping an image (whiteboards, street signs, menus, and anything else you want to remember) and Evernote will save it and make it searchable. PaperPort Notes


If you need a free iPad note-taking app that lets you talk whatever you want to write down, PaperPort Notes is the best option. PaperPort also syncs with Dropbox or Box.net. If you're already comfortable using dictation software, the app is a breeze to use. Moreover, it doesn't contain a single advertisement. It's not quite picture-perfect, with a few interface idiosyncrasies, but among free note-taking apps, it's one that can really boost your productivity.

Penultimate


Fast, flexible, and friendly, Penultimate is a first-rate handwriting app (sans keyboard) for the iPad that aims to replace your favorite pen with your index finger. Using the app is second nature because it's nearly the same as doodling in a paper notebook. Polaris Office


To get work done effectively on an iPad, you need an app that lets you access your preferred storage system, create new documents, and edit existing documents from your preferred storage area. Apps that do one or two of those things are a dime a dozen, but it's hard to find a good one that can do them all. The three-in-one productivity app Polaris Office ($12.99) for both iPhone and iPad radically changes the office landscape. It's an alternative to Apple's iWork suite for editing and creating documents, but also gives you access to a few of the major storage services, such as Dropbox and Google Drive (formerly Google Docs). You can edit your existing spreadsheets, Powerpoint files, and Word documents, or create new ones and save them locally or to your storage service.

Priority Matrix


The organizational iPad app Priority Matrix is a good example of an app that contains the functionality to be useful, but may not appeal to all users due to its slightly unconventional schematic design. In Priority Matrix, you set up projects and associate tasks or to-do list items to them. The twist is that you then must categorize each task into one of four quadrants. You can change what these four quadrants are called, but the defaults are: critical and immediate, critical but not immediate, not critical but immediate, and not critical and not immediate. Priority Matrix could be a great productivity tool to add to your iPad toolkit, if you like the slightly unusual schema.

Save2PDF


If you've ever needed to add a new page to the front or rear of an existing PDF, Save2PDF is the app for you. It lets mobile professionals select multiple files of different types and merge them into a single PDF file. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. You can also edit, zip, and wirelessly print documents from this productivity app.

Sugar Sync


iPad users looking for a way to easily retrieve their office files should definitely check out Sugar Sync. It's similar to Dropbox, but you get more space with a free account: 5GB (Dropbox gives you 2GB). When your files are available to you from everywhere and automatically synchronized, you never waste time trying to sort out which version of what file you put where.
